ToonDoo is pretty simple app to use. To begin you must create a free account. I began first by selecting a background, which it had a variety to choose from. Then i was able to choose my characters. It included categories from famous people to unusual. There is a feature that allow you to add items or clip art into your scene. All the items added can be manipulated including resizing, turning, flipping, changing where the item is located and changed it's color. You are able to type in to thought or speaking bubbles. I enjoyed that you are able to manipulate every item on the comic strip. One of the downsides i found while using this app include not being able to save my comic strip. I decided to save a screenshot of the comic strip due to having difficulty saving it.

The Pixton graphics were very nice and had a professional feel compareed to ToonDoo. This one had many other features ToonDoo did not. I was able to change the postion of my character, which i foiund to be easy to use. The graphics were harder to manipulate comapreed to ToonDoo. I wasnt able to change the font size or the size of my character. My comic took longer to create because it had so many choices and things that I could make my characters do. Many of the icons I pressed were trial and error due to there not being an explanation. Pixton did not allow to download a copy of my comic but i was able to embed the code below.

The Make Beliefs Comix was very basic to use. The characters, scenes, and props were very limited compared to ToonDoo and Pixton. One of the major downsides is some of the items didn’t have color. When i chose a character it gave you four different poses to choose from, you could not manipulate their expressions. When saving there were very limited options, i chose to screenshot the compic strip. Other options included emailing, printing, posting to Facebook or Twitter because the website doesn’t save anything. Out of the three apps, i feel this would definitely be my least favorite. There were not many options and I feel these are big drawbacks to using this app.

After trying all three app, i feel that the best for students would be Pixton. Pixton allows students to create, interact, collaborate and share content online with each other through social media dialogues. Students would be able to create their own characters and comic strips. Pixton is a way for students to engage in the world of comics and to express themselves through creating and sharing their own comics. They are able to manipulate their characters much more than the other two apps. They provided professional graphics that would interest students.

Introducing comic strips to teachers would be easily done by simply sending teachers a comic strip via email. The comic strip would included information about a workshop i would be conducting for teachers interested in learning how to use comic strip programs in their classrooms. At the workshop i would have teacher create their own comic strips and will present ways that students would benefit from creating comic strips.

  1. Amanda-
Great job on your comics! I have to agree that Pixton has some great options with the positions of their characters! And I really like your idea of introducing comic strips to teachers by sending them a comic strip via email!! Good way to into potential PD! - Teresa :)
